The Durango stands as the final Dodge vehicle that still features a Hemi V-8, but the engine’s tenure within the popular three-row SUV is nearing its conclusion.

While Dodge has not specified an end date for the V-8 lineup, it has confirmed the discontinuation of one of the three V-8 options for the 2025 model year.

The muscle car brand from America announced on Wednesday that the 2025 Durango, which is currently available for order, will feature only the 360-hp 5.7-liter and 710-hp supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 engines, alongside the standard 360-hp 3.6-liter V-6. The previously offered 475-hp 6.4-liter V-8 has been eliminated.

The supercharged 6.2-liter V-8, exclusive to the Durango SRT Hellcat variant, will be produced in limited quantities. Its parent company, Stellantis, ceased engine production at the end of 2023, and the remaining supply is being depleted. The 2025 Durango SRT Hellcat is the final Stellantis vehicle that features this engine, and it will be available in several special editions to honor it, including the Silver Bullet, Hammerhead, and Brass Monkey.

Dodge is also celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Hemi V-8 in the Durango for the 2025 model year by introducing a special R/T 20th Anniversary version featuring the 5.7-liter V-8.

No significant changes have been made to the Durango for 2025, although the lineup has been streamlined. Beyond the special editions and the performance-oriented SRT Hellcat, shoppers can select from the entry-level GT model and the mid-tier R/T. The GT is equipped with the V-6 engine while the R/T comes with the 5.7-liter V-8.

The GT’s Plus Package has received an upgrade with additional standard features, which now include a power sunroof, navigation, a nine-speaker Alpine audio system, heated front and second-row seats (the front seats also have ventilation), as well as a variety of electronic driver assistance technologies. Furthermore, a 10.1-inch touchscreen has become standard across all 2025 Durango models.

Dodge is anticipated to introduce more special edition Durangos prior to the complete phase-out of its V-8 engines. Much like it did with the conclusion of its V-8-powered Challenger and Charger muscle cars, Dodge intends to roll out a series of “Last Call” special editions to commemorate the departure of the V-8 in the Durango. The first of these was unveiled in January as the 2024 Durango SRT 392 AlcHemi, with additional editions expected for 2025.
