On Tuesday, Hyundai announced that the Ioniq 9, an electric three-row SUV, is set to make its debut in November.
This launch is anticipated to coincide with the 2024 Los Angeles Auto Show, which kicks off on Nov. 22. Hyundai previously used this event in 2021 to unveil the Ioniq 9 through the Seven concept.
Earlier in July, Hyundai indicated that the Ioniq 9 will launch in the U.S. as a 2025 model, though the exact sales start date remains unconfirmed. Pricing details are also yet to be revealed.
The Ioniq 9 designation marks it as one of Hyundai’s largest offerings. Additionally, it shares its foundation with the Kia EV9, utilizing the E-GMP dedicated EV platform.
Teaser images suggest that the Ioniq 9 will bear a close resemblance to the eye-catching Seven concept. However, while the concept was designed on a wheelbase of 126 inches, recent spy images of prototypes suggest that the Ioniq 9 may be slightly shorter, likely closer to the 122 inches of the EV9. Moreover, the production version is expected to forgo the concept’s rear-opening coach doors.
Hyundai has not disclosed specific powertrain details for the Ioniq 9 yet, but it’s anticipated that they will align with those of the EV9. The Kia model offers a choice of 76.1- or 99.8-kwh batteries, along with both single-motor rear-wheel-drive and dual-motor all-wheel-drive configurations. The most efficient version of the EV9 boasts an EPA-estimated range of 304 miles.
A high-performance variant, the EV9 GT, is currently in development, and there’s a possibility that the Ioniq 9 may offer its own N performance variant, although Hyundai has not confirmed this.
Additionally, Genesis is in the process of testing a large electric SUV that may be designated the GV90. The Genesis Neolun concept, revealed in March, could serve as a preview for the design of the production model expected to launch around 2026.
