Toyota is poised to broaden the Crown series in the U.S. marketplace just as it has done in Japan.
On Tuesday, the 2025 Toyota Crown Signia was unveiled, featuring a hybrid powertrain, capacity for five occupants, and an upscale interior. When the Crown Signia hits the market in the summer of 2024, it will be available in XLE and Limited configurations.
Each Crown Signia will be equipped with a 2.5-liter inline-4 engine combined with two electric motor generators, delivering a total output of 243 hp. Toyota has not yet disclosed the torque rating for this system. All-wheel drive will come standard. Under typical conditions, the system will direct 100% of power to the front wheels but can adjust the power distribution to 20:80 when needed. It will have a towing capacity of up to 2,700 pounds.
Toyota anticipates that the Crown Signia will achieve a combined fuel efficiency rating of 36 mpg upon its release, positioning it among the most fuel-efficient crossover SUVs in its category.
The U.S. version of the Crown Signia resembles the elevated Estate concept first displayed in 2022 during the premiere of the Crown series. The design of the Crown Signia aligns closely with that of the Crown, which fundamentally remains a sedan with a higher seating position and raised roofline. The slender, slit-like horizontal daytime running lights are positioned above headlights mounted in the mid-bumper. The body-colored, mesh-like grille seamlessly integrates into the smooth and rounded front end. A robust shoulder line extends from the front fenders straight to the rear, exhibiting a sharper line than what is seen on the Crown sedan. The “floating roof” rear pillar has been retained from the Crown sedan. The streamlined, full-width LED taillight bears a resemblance to that of the sedan version. The lower-tier XLE models will come equipped with 18-inch wheels, whereas the opulent Limited models will feature 21-inch wheels.
In the interior, every Crown will boast a 12.3-inch digital gauge display alongside a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The straightforward controls will be instantly recognizable to anyone familiar with recent Toyota models, complete with physical buttons and knobs for both the audio and climate settings. An abbreviated electronic shifter is positioned on the center console. Limited models will feature leather-trimmed quilted seats with materials and hues reminiscent of a Lexus, while XLE models will utilize synthetic leather.
Toyota has not yet disclosed the dimensions of the Crown, but it is expected to compete with models such as the Nissan Murano, Hyundai Santa Fe, and Kia Sorento. Toyota mentioned that the 60/40 split-folding rear seat allows the Crown Signia to accommodate items up to 6.5 feet in length.
All Crown Signia models will come equipped with automatic emergency braking featuring pedestrian detection, active lane control, adaptive cruise control, and blind-spot monitoring systems. An Advanced Technology package will enhance the vehicle with a surround-view camera system, front cross-traffic alerts, and lane-change assistance.
