Individuals who have reserved a 2025 Volvo EX90 should be ready for some surprising price adjustment, as the cost of this electric midsize SUV has increased prior to the commencement of deliveries.
Across the lineup of the 2025 EX90, Volvo has raised prices by $3,300, resulting in a new price tag of $81,290, which includes a $1,295 destination charge. This is an increase from the initial $77,990 announced last autumn.
According to Volvo spokesperson Sophia Durr, the surge in cost was shared with reservation holders and dealers on June 26 and is attributed to elevated material expenses.
The arrival of the EX90 is expected by the year’s end. In the U.S., the vehicles will be supplied from Volvo’s facility near Charleston, South Carolina, where the three-row SUV commenced production in June. Additionally, this facility will produce the related Polestar 3 for the U.S. market.
The EX90 is positioned by Volvo as their flagship, although the three-row SUV has faced challenges during its development. First introduced in November 2022, it was originally scheduled for early deliveries this year. Nevertheless, software complications resulted in delays and in June, Volvo announced that certain essential features like Apple CarPlay and Plug & Charge will be absent initially, with plans to add them later through software updates.
Considering the ongoing cooling demand for EVs, these obstacles and price increase may pose further challenges. Some dealers have expressed concerns to Automotive News, stating that they may struggle if Volvo sticks to its current strategy of exclusively marketing EVs by the end of the decade, and have requested the continuation of plug-in hybrids from the automaker.
In addition, Volvo has had to postpone the introduction of its EX30 electric subcompact crossover in the U.S. due to a sudden rise in tariffs on Chinese-made EVs. To avoid the tariffs, the automaker will wait for EX30 production to start in Europe, which will delay the launch to 2025, roughly a year later than initially planned.
