The 2026 BMW iX represents the first significant update since this electric midsize SUV was introduced for the 2022 model year, featuring enhancements in power and efficiency, along with new styling and the introduction of a base model.

The new entry-level model, called the xDrive45, is positioned below the xDrive60 and M70 xDrive variants, replacing last year’s xDrive50 and M60, respectively. The starting price for the xDrive45 is $76,325 (including a $1,175 destination fee), which is $11,920 lower than the price of the 2025 BMW iX xDrive50, the more affordable option from that model year. The xDrive60 and M70 models have price tags of $89,675 and $112,675, respectively, after including destination fees.

All variants continue to feature dual-motor all-wheel drive, with the xDrive45 producing 402 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque, achieving 0-60 mph in 4.9 seconds, as stated by BMW. On the other hand, the xDrive60 is tuned to deliver 536 hp and 564 lb-ft, an increase of 20 hp compared to the outgoing xDrive50, though the torque and the estimated 0-60 mph time of 4.4 seconds remain unchanged.

The top-of-the-line M70 performance variant provides 650 hp and 811 lb-ft when using launch control (570 hp and 749 lb-ft in regular conditions), compared to the previous M60’s output of 610 hp and 749 lb-ft. The 0-60 mph estimate remains identical at 3.6 seconds. BMW also notes a maximum speed of 155 mph with optional performance tires, and 130 mph with the standard tires, in contrast to the 124 mph limit for the standard iX models.

    2025 BMW iX

The various battery sizes are slightly different, with the iX xDrive45 featuring 100.1 kWh (usable), xDrive60 with 113.4 kWh, and the ix M70 offering 112.8 kWh. BMW asserts that all three versions will deliver over 300 miles of range, specifically 340 miles for the xDrive60, 312 miles for the xDrive45, and 302 miles for the M70, each surpassing the 2025 model’s best range of 309 miles.

The enhancements in range can be attributed to a more effective battery management system, silicon-carbide inverters, and new battery chemistry that allows for better energy density, as claimed by BMW. Additionally, a standard heat pump is expected to enhance efficiency in colder conditions. The iX continues to utilize a 400-volt electrical system, with its maximum DC fast-charging capability remaining at 195 kW (175 kW for the xDrive45 variants).

Stylistic modifications include revamped headlights featuring striking vertical elements, a new grille with similar vertical grooves and optional lighting, and an updated front fascia that presents a squared-off look.

The iX maintains the sleek curved dashboard display introduced with this model, now enhanced with additional features like gaming and video streaming capabilities. An optional M Sport Package introduces new multifunctional seats that offer additional support and a massage function.

Production for the 2026 BMW iX is set to commence in March at the manufacturer’s facility in Dingolfing, Germany, with deliveries in the U.S. anticipated for the second quarter. This updated version of the iX will soon precede the launch of BMW’s next-generation Neue Klasse electric vehicles, starting with a compact crossover expected to be named the iX3, which was previewed by the Vision Neue Klasse X concept.
