Kia engineers have been observed testing a camouflaged prototype of a redesigned Telluride for the first time.
This new model is being developed alongside a refreshed version of the Hyundai Palisade, with both three-row SUVs expected to make their debut next year as 2026 models for the U.S. market.
Images captured of the new Palisade prototypes indicate a significant redesign is forthcoming, while the new Telluride appears to be adopting a more evolutionary design, based on footage from the YouTube channel KindelAuto.
The headlight design resembles that of the current model, and the grille maintains a similar shape, albeit with a revamped mesh pattern. The most noticeable change visible on the prototype seems to be the sharper contours, especially where the A-pillar meets the roof. Additionally, the rear of the vehicle appears to introduce a more angular shape compared to the current model, moving away from its more rounded lines in favor of a boxier profile.
While there is no definitive view of the interior, it is likely that the dashboard will feature a unified display panel that combines the digital gauge cluster and the infotainment touchscreen, similar to what was introduced in the 2023 update of the current Telluride.
The Telluride is presently available exclusively with a 3.8-liter V-6 engine that produces 291 hp, paired with a standard front-wheel-drive system, though all-wheel drive is an option. Anticipate that the new generation will include an electrified powertrain at least as an optional offering. In a February interview with Green Car Reports, Russell Wager, Kia America’s vice president of marketing, indicated that the company is considering a hybrid powertrain for the Telluride.
He mentioned that the powertrain could either be a standard hybrid or a plug-in hybrid, but both options will not be offered simultaneously, unlike certain previous Kia models.
The Telluride has emerged as one of Kia’s top-selling vehicles in the U.S., with an average of nearly 90,000 units sold annually since its introduction. The sales total for 2023 reached 110,765 units, marking the highest on record. The upcoming redesign is expected to sustain this upward trajectory as the Telluride encounters newer competition, including electric vehicle options like Kia’s own EV9.
