While many companies have long offered electric conversions for vintage Range Rovers, Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) is finally introducing its own electric Range Rover, based on the latest iteration of the famed luxury SUV.
Almost camouflaged prototypes of the Range Rover Electric have been spotted undergoing tests at Germany’s Nürburgring racetrack ahead of a highly anticipated unveiling later this year.
The vehicle’s order books have been open since late 2023, and deliveries are expected to commence next year, which means it will likely debut as a 2026 model in the U.S.
In terms of appearance, the Range Rover Electric will not differ much from its gasoline and plug-in hybrid counterparts. The primary visual distinction will be a distinctive grille, as suggested by the camouflage seen on the prototypes. There may also be slight modifications to the underbody to enhance aerodynamic performance.
The Range Rover Electric will utilize a modified version of the MLA (Modular Longitudinal Architecture) platform that underlies the gasoline and plug-in hybrid models, sharing a production line at JLR’s Solihull facility in the U.K.
Meanwhile, the batteries and electric powertrains will be manufactured at a separate facility located in Wolverhampton, U.K.
This electric version of the MLA platform will incorporate an 800-volt architecture, which will support DC fast charging. JLR has also confirmed that it will offer over-the-air updates and applications intended to optimize range.

Prospective buyers need not worry about sacrificing off-road capability. Current prototypes are being tested under extreme weather conditions, including temperatures ranging from -40 degrees F to over 120 degrees F, and they are also being evaluated for water wading depths exceeding 33 inches.
An added benefit for owners of the Range Rover Electric will be the absence of engine noise. JLR has stated that this model will be its most silent SUV to date and will include a unique active noise cancellation system to enhance refinement and comfort within the cabin.
More electric vehicles from JLR are expected to follow shortly, including an electric Range Rover Sport and an electric version of the Range Rover Velar. Additionally, the first models from a new lineup of electric Jaguars will debut in 2025.
