Acura will utilize the 2024 Monterey Car Week this month to showcase a concept that previews its upcoming electric vehicle, an SUV to be manufactured in the U.S. on a proprietary platform.

A teaser image released on Friday offers little insight, but the anticipation for the full unveiling won’t last long as Monterey Car Week is scheduled from Aug. 9-18. This annual California event is also where Acura introduced the Precision EV two years prior, a concept that hinted at the 2024 ZDX currently available.

The foundation supporting Acura’s forthcoming EV will not be associated in any way with General Motors’ Ultium EV platform and battery technology showcased in the ZDX. It will be a novel design developed alongside its parent company Honda, which will employ it for various EVs, notably the 0 (Zero) Series EV family revealed in January at the 2024 CES.

This platform will incorporate proprietary software and maintain enough flexibility to accommodate vehicles across various segments, though the initial offerings will fall into the “mid-to-large” categories, as previously stated by Honda. The anticipated range is 300 miles or greater.

The new electric vehicle brand Afeela, formed by Honda and Sony, is also projected to adopt the platform.

The first Honda EV utilizing the platform is set to be available in the U.S. in 2026. This timeline coincides with when Afeela’s inaugural EV is expected to launch, and likely when the production variant of Acura’s forthcoming concept will also commence sales. Acura intends to exclusively sell all of its EVs online, emulating EV brands such as Tesla and Rivian.

For the U.S. market, the vehicles will be manufactured at Honda’s updated Marysville Auto Plant in Ohio. The batteries will also be obtained from a plant in Ohio that Honda is establishing in collaboration with LG.

Acura will continue to release vehicles featuring gasoline engines. The next model will debut early next year as the 2025 ADX, speculated to be a subcompact crossover paired with the latest Honda HR-V.
