Ford is staging a comeback in the worldwide sports car racing scene at the Rolex 24 in Daytona with the legendary Ford Mustang at the forefront. The Mustang is set to compete in various races during the event, with GT3 race cars taking part in the GTD Pro and GTD categories, and GT4 cars participating in both the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge and the IMSA VP Racing Sports Car Challenge. These vehicles have been created in collaboration with Multimatic Motorsports. Mark Rushbrook, the Global Head of Ford Performance Motorsports, shared his enthusiasm for showcasing the Ford Mustang GT3 and GT4 at Daytona International Speedway for the IMSA competition.Entry, Ford, and Multimatic are teaming up for a two-car, factory-backed GT3 team. The No. 64 Mustang will be piloted by Chris Mies, Mike Rockenfeller, and Harry Tincknell, while the No. 65 will be driven by Le Mans champions Joey Hand and Dirk Müller, alongside Frédéric Vervisch. Both officially supported cars are honoring the 60th anniversary of the Ford Mustang.

“Launching a new car on its maiden race is always the most demanding,” stated Larry Holt, Executive Vice President of Multimatic Special Vehicle Operations. “Daytona represents the culmination of two years of focused collaboration between Multimatic, Ford, and M-Sport, with no stone left unturned in crafting a car that can take on the iconic twice-around-the-clock challenge. We are prepared!”

Furthermore, the Mustang GT3 customer Proton Competition will field its GT3 in the GTD Class, with Dennis Olsen, Corey Lewis, Ryan Hardwick, and Giammarco Levorato as the drivers of the No. 55 car.

During Daytona, two customer teams are primed to introduce the brand-new Mustang GT4 in the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge series and the IMSA VP Racing Sports Car Challenge. KohR Motorsports will welcome back Luca Mars and Bob Michaelian in the No. 59 Mustang GT4, with Mars also competing simultaneously in the VP Racing Sports Car Challenge. McCumbee McAleer Racing is also marking the thrilling new chapter of Mustang, reuniting the No. 13 of Chad McCumbee and Jenson Altzman for the Michelin Pilot Challenge.

Over the years, the Rolex 24 at Daytona has been a venue for multiple triumphs for Ford Motor Company, from the inaugural victory in 1966 to the recent success in 2017 with a class triumph for the Ford GTLM.
