Just a couple of months after Ineos restarted production of its Grenadier SUV, the company faces a significant challenge: a recall due to a potential door issue that could pose safety risks for drivers and passengers. The rugged, retro-inspired Grenadier, which has attracted many adventurous drivers, is now under scrutiny because certain 2024 models may have faulty door button assemblies.
In the U.S., this recall impacts 7,022 specific Grenadiers. According to information from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the problem stems from an insufficient application of grease during the manufacturing process in Hambach, France. While it might sound relatively minor, this defect could lead to a situation where the door button stays pressed down, preventing the door from latching securely. The end result? A vehicle door that could swing open unexpectedly while driving, creating a serious safety hazard for everyone in the vehicle.
Ineos is doing its part to address this issue. The company has outlined a clear response plan: the door button assemblies will be replaced at no cost to the owners. For those who are concerned about the safety of their vehicles, there’s an important feature in place: if your Grenadier’s door isn’t fully latched, you’ll see a warning light illuminate on your instrument panel, along with a sound alert if you start driving. This means you can still enjoy your Grenadier, as long as you make it a habit to check that your doors are secured before hitting the road.
Ineos became aware of this issue in October 2023 after receiving several warranty claims. Fortunately, they’ve stated that there have been no reported accidents or injuries linked to this door defect so far. It’s a reminder of how important it is for manufacturers to pay attention to even the smallest details during production—because when it comes to our vehicles, every little bit counts.
For affected owners, Ineos is reaching out with letters beginning March 31, ensuring that drivers are kept informed. If you have questions or need more information, Ineos has made it easy to reach out for help: simply call their customer service at 1-833-494-4748.
It’s understandable to feel worried about such recalls, especially if you’ve just invested in a new vehicle like the Grenadier. The good news is that the company is taking swift action to resolve this issue and keep drivers safe. It’s a situation where being informed and proactive can make all the difference—so make sure to keep an eye on your mail for that notification and don’t hesitate to reach out if you need assistance.
