Jaguar has offered a sneak peek at the much-anticipated concept vehicle that will hint at the design of a sophisticated grand tourer. This vehicle is scheduled to debut next year and marks a significant transition for the automaker as it endeavors to establish itself as a leader in the ultra-luxury electric vehicle sector.
A teaser image shared late on Wednesday reveals the Jaguar Design Vision Concept, which will officially debut on December 2 during the Miami Art Week of 2024. The image highlights the vehicle’s rear, showcasing a fastback silhouette that notably lacks a rear window, similar to the design of the Polestar 4. The Polestar utilizes cameras and a rearview camera mirror to furnish a view of the rear surroundings.
This teaser follows Jaguar’s recent unveiling of a new logo and rebranding initiative, which moves away from the company’s historical focus on performance to attract more style-conscious consumers. The automaker stated that this shift in branding is aimed at making its values “relevant for a contemporary audience.”
As part of Jaguar’s strategic transformation plan revealed in 2021, the company aims to launch three electric vehicles within this decade. A large SUV and sedan are expected to accompany the debut of the grand tourer.
Earlier in November, Jaguar released images of a heavily camouflaged prototype for the upcoming grand tourer, displaying a sleek profile, a pronounced front end, and a cabin pushed towards the rear, reminiscent of the original XK model. However, similarly to the concept teased, the prototype appears to have moved away from the sensual curves that have traditionally defined Jaguars.
The grand tourer is expected to make its production debut next year, with deliveries slated to commence in 2026. This is a bold move for Jaguar, which has already begun phasing out its existing lineup in several markets, including its U.K. base. In these regions, dealerships that typically also sell Land Rovers will be focused on clearing their inventory ahead of the new EV introductions.
Next-generation Jaguar EV prototype
The upcoming models will be priced higher than recent Jaguars, built on a dedicated EV platform called JEA (Jaguar Electrified Architecture). Jaguar has emphasized the importance of a unique platform to distinguish its EVs from those produced by its sister brand, Land Rover.
Jaguar has indicated that the grand tourer may start at around 100,000 British pounds (approximately $163,000). The company has also promised that it will offer more power than any prior Jaguar road car and a range of 430 miles based on the WLTP test standard used internationally. When tested under the stricter EPA standards in the U.S., the range is expected to comfortably exceed 300 miles.
