A prototype for the forthcoming iteration of Audi’s Q3 compact crossover has been seen once more. It seems to be at an advanced phase of development based on the minimal camouflage and production-ready lights equipped on the vehicle.
The existing Q3 debuted in 2018 as a 2019 model. The revamped third-generation model is projected to make its appearance late this year or early next year and is anticipated to be introduced in the U.S. as a 2026 model.
The new Q3 seems to possess similar dimensions to the current version, which is logical as both vehicles are set to utilize a shared platform, specifically Volkswagen Group’s MQB, although the new Q3 will incorporate the updated iteration of the platform, termed MQB Evo.
The remainder of the design is distinctive, as the new Q3 showcases split headlights with slender daytime running lights akin to those Audi utilizes for the recently unveiled Q6 E-Tron electric compact crossover. The grille mesh also represents a novel design for Audi, and at the back is a light strip that introduces a new motif for the Q3.
Some of the prototypes include a plug-in hybrid powertrain, with the charging inlet positioned on the driver side front fender. A mild-hybrid powertrain may be available, although Audi has not provided specific details regarding the vehicle’s plans yet.
A forthcoming RS Q3 with a turbocharged 2.5-liter inline-5 engine should also make an entrance, likely as a final tribute for the engine. After 2026, Audi will cease the launch of vehicles powered by internal-combustion engines.
A more coupe-style Q3 Sportback should also be in development. Audi has never marketed the current Q3 Sportback in the U.S., and it remains uncertain if the same will apply to the new generation.
