Those contemplating a Lotus Eletre should brace themselves for a significant price increase.
The electric midsize SUV is now open for reservations for U.S. customers, with a starting price set at $229,900, a notable rise from the previously announced $107,000 earlier this spring.
It’s important to note that the earlier price referenced the standard Eletre, whereas the new price is for the Eletre Carbon, the sole variant currently available for reservation in the U.S. This model matches the specifications of the Eletre R, which previously had a starting price of $145,000.
This adjustment amounts to an additional $84,900, likely attributed to the 100% tariff imposed by the U.S. in May on electric vehicles produced in China. While Lotus has a legacy of crafting sports cars in Hethel, U.K., its newer “lifestyle” models, like the Eletre and the recently unveiled Emeya sedan, are manufactured in Wuhan, China.
Similarly, the tariffs have impacted the Chinese-made Volvo EX30, prompting Volvo to delay its U.S. launch until production of the electric subcompact crossover can transition to Belgium.
Lotus Eletre Carbon
In order to justify the price spike of the Eletre, Lotus has equipped the Carbon model with a host of premium standard features. Available exclusively in the U.S. and Canada, this model includes offerings such as Bridge of Weir leather upholstery, heated front seats with lumbar support and memory settings, an Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel, and an electrochromic glass roof as a complimentary feature.
The inclusion of ‘Carbon’ in its name references the carbon-fiber accents adorning both the exterior and interior. Additionally, the Eletre Carbon also offers a unique carbon-inspired Stardust black paint with a satin finish, which Lotus states will be exclusive to this version.
Performance-wise, the Eletre Carbon echoes the capabilities of the previously announced Eletre R, featuring a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system with a 2-speed transmission that delivers up to 905 hp. Claimed performance metrics indicate a 0-62 mph time of 2.95 seconds and a top speed of 165 mph.
An additional standard Eletre model rated at 603 hp is expected to be released at a later date.
The battery available across all Eletre models has a capacity of 111.9 kWh, which Lotus claims can be charged from 10% to 80% in just 20 minutes, provided it is connected to a DC fast charger supporting 350 kW charging. Lotus estimates a maximum range of 304 miles for the Eletre R in international markets, utilizing the WLTP test cycle; similar results can be anticipated for the Carbon model. However, expect lower range numbers when measured under the more stringent EPA cycle.
Eletre Carbon deliveries in the U.S. are currently anticipated to begin in the first quarter of 2025.
