Stellantis has halted operations at its large Mirafiori facility in Turin, Italy, as a result of decreased demand for the vehicles manufactured at this site.
The model range includes the Fiat 500e electric hatchback along with the Maserati GranTurismo, offered in both gasoline and electric variants.
According to statements from Stellantis to union representatives, Reuters reported on December 20 that the production stoppage for the Maserati GranTurismo, which began at the start of December, will now continue for several more weeks, extending until February 3.
Production of the 500e had already been on hiatus, and this break has been prolonged by a couple of weeks until January 20, as per Reuters. The production of the 500e has faced multiple pauses over the past year due to waning demand, particularly in its primary market, Europe.
To increase output, Fiat is in the process of upgrading the car’s EV platform to accommodate a gasoline engine in a hybrid setup. In June, Fiat announced that the 500 hybrid, named the 500 Ibrida, is not expected to launch until between late 2025 and early 2026.
The Mirafiori facility previously produced Maserati’s Ghibli, Levante, and Quattroporte models until manufacturing of those vehicles was discontinued earlier this year. The Ghibli will not have a direct replacement, but new versions of the Levante and Quattroporte are in development, though their release dates remain unclear. These successors are anticipated to feature only electric powertrains, as Maserati aims to offer exclusively EVs by 2028.
