The Swedish electric vehicle manufacturer Polestar is reducing the starting price for some of its models in the United States while increasing it for others.

The U.S.-manufactured Polestar 3 midsize SUV, which made its debut last summer as a 2025 model, has already experienced a price cut.

discounted to $68,900, down from $74,800, where the entry-level model previously featured a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive system. Both prices include a $1,400 destination charge.

With the introduction of a single motor, the horsepower has also decreased, as the RWD version of the Polestar 3 is rated at 299 hp compared to the AWD version, which comes standard at 489 hp and can reach 517 hp when equipped with the optional Performance Pack.

On the other hand, range has improved. The EPA estimate for the RWD Polestar 3 is now 350 miles, compared to 315 miles for its AWD counterpart and 279 miles for the AWD version with the Performance Pack. All variants utilize the same 111-kWh battery.

Despite the lower starting price, the RWD Polestar 3 retains most of the standard features found in the AWD version. This includes components like 20-inch wheels, Brembo brakes, heated side mirrors, LED headlights, a powered tailgate, and Polestar’s Pilot Pack suite of advanced driver-assistance technologies. This suite includes a surround-view camera, cross-traffic monitoring, and an automated driving system for single-lane highway maneuvers.

Unfortunately for Polestar 2 enthusiasts, the Chinese-manufactured compact liftback for 2025 is now available exclusively with an all-wheel-drive powertrain featuring a Performance Pack. This change raises the starting price to $66,200, including destination fees. For 2024, the 2 was also available with a rear-wheel-drive option for a starting price of $51,300 and a standard all-wheel-drive configuration for $56,700, both of which have been discontinued.

The AWD Polestar 2 with the Performance Pack had an EPA range estimate of 247 miles for 2024, while the RWD and standard AWD versions boasted estimates of 320 and 276 miles, respectively. The AWD powertrain is equipped with a 78-kWh battery, while the RWD variant utilizes a different 82-kWh battery.

When asked by Motor Authority about the streamlined Polestar 2 lineup, a company representative explained that Polestar is currently focused on offering a three-car lineup, with an emphasis on the Polestar 3 and Polestar 4 for the North American market. The Polestar 4 is a new compact crossover featuring coupe-like styling. Initial production occurs in China, but Polestar plans to add manufacturing at a facility in South Korea to sidestep U.S. tariffs on Chinese-made electric vehicles. The company has not disclosed whether similar production plans exist for the Polestar 2.

The starting price for the 2025 Polestar 4 is $56,300 in the U.S. for the single-motor, rear-wheel-drive model. Upgrading to all-wheel drive increases the price to $64,300. Both prices include destination charges.
