Porsche is issuing a recall for 2,941 electric Macan crossovers due to headlights that are excessively bright, which could impair visibility for drivers coming from the opposite direction and heighten the risk of accidents.
This recall affects 2024 and 2025 models built between March 15, 2024, and November 4, 2024. The headlight-control software in this group of vehicles was mistakenly set to European regulations instead of U.S. standards, leading to brightness levels that surpass those outlined in Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 108, as reported by the NHTSA.

Porsche informed the safety authority that this issue was rectified in subsequent production vehicles; however, all of the recalled vehicles are likely equipped with the incorrect software. Dealerships will reprogram the headlight control units at no cost, as this is a software-related problem that cannot be resolved through an over-the-air update.
Porsche plans to send out owner notification letters on January 24, 2025. In the meantime, owners can reach out to the automaker’s customer service at 1-800-767-7243 for further details. The reference number for this recall is ARC5.
The electric Macan debuted for the 2024 model year as one of the initial EVs utilizing the Premium Platform Electric (PPE), which is also shared with Audi, underpinning the Q6 E-Tron SUV and A6 E-Tron sedan. Initial drives suggested that the Macan EV would serve as a smooth introduction to electric vehicles, but Porsche limited the rollout to the dual-motor Macan 4 and Macan Turbo versions for its inaugural year.
For 2025, Porsche broadened the lineup by introducing a single-motor base variant effectively reducing the electric Macan’s price by approximately $3,000, alongside the addition of a dual-motor Macan 4S positioned between the Macan 4 and Turbo models. While the previous-generation gasoline Macan continues to be sold alongside the electric variant, Porsche has announced that only the electric Macan will be offered starting in 2026.
