A new electric iteration of the legendary Range Rover is on the horizon from Jaguar Land Rover (JLR).

Reservations for this vehicle, dubbed the Range Rover Electric, have been open since late 2023, with deliveries expected to commence next year, indicating its debut as a 2026 model in the U.S. market.

Prospective buyers need not fret over any reduction in performance, as prototypes have undergone stringent testing similar to that of their gasoline and plug-in hybrid versions. This includes operating in conditions as frigid as -40 degrees F and soaring to over 122 degrees F.

For the winter tests, prototypes were sent near the Arctic Circle, while the hot-weather assessments are nearing completion, occurring in multiple regions to evaluate both high temperatures and humidity levels, which JLR reports have reached up to 90%.

To tackle these challenging conditions, the Range Rover Electric is equipped with an innovative thermal management system that keeps the battery, electric motors, and cabin at ideal temperatures. This system is particularly active in high-temperature environments to maintain power delivery, according to JLR.

The Range Rover Electric is being built on a modified version of JLR’s Modular Longitudinal Architecture (MLA) platform, which also serves the gasoline and plug-in hybrid Range Rovers, and production will take place at JLR’s facility in Solihull, U.K.

Visually, the Range Rover Electric is designed to closely resemble its gasoline and hybrid counterparts, with the only distinction being a unique grille. There might also be some modifications beneath the vehicle aimed at enhancing aerodynamic performance.

Additionally, JLR plans to launch more electric models in the near future, including an electric Range Rover Sport and the electric successor to the Range Rover Velar. The first of a new wave of electric Jaguars is also set to debut in 2025, with a concept vehicle showcased during the 2024 Miami Art Week beginning December 2.
