The 2025 Audi RS 3, yet to be officially unveiled, has already shattered a record at the Nürburgring.
On Friday, it was disclosed by Audi that their soon-to-be-launched 2025 Audi RS 3 engraved a time of 7:33.123 miles on the Nürburgring. This impressive feat erected a new precedent for compact vehicles on the course, surpassing the former holder, the BMW M2, by a clear five seconds.
The record-setting RS 3 was a preliminary, near-production version that reflects the forthcoming upgrades planned for the model’s mid-cycle enhancement, anticipated to hit the dealerships in the near future. This particular car was outfitted with optional Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R tires, which are akin to racing slicks intended for road use. Components such as the during-the-sale accessible carbon-ceramic brakes and the adaptable displacement dampers were also integral factors.
According to Audi, the leap in lap speed can be attributed to “refined cornering capabilities,” which have fortified the RS 3’s eagerness to dive into bends. Additionally, introductions like the new braking torque vectoring have lessened the need for steering input before reaching the curve’s peak. Audi elaborated, stating that less steering translates to reduced friction, diminished tire scrub, a swift pace, and the aptitude to thrust forth sooner.
A novel software algorithm and integrated vehicular dynamics controller synergize all chassis dynamics that read lateral movement information to more effectively allocate engine torque in sync with the stability control setup.
Audi has assured the power plant driving the RS 3 remains the esteemed force-induced 2.5-liter five-cylinder engine which boasts 394 hp and 368 lb-ft of torque, though these figures are not tailored for the U.S. market. The variant slated for American shores is expected to showcase comparable output. The current market’s RS 3 offers 401 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque.
Furthermore, the RS 3 will adopt enhancements debuted in the entire A3 line-up for the year 2025. These enhancements range from minor cosmetic revisions to novel interior furnishings, along with advancements in onboard technology. This encompasses a set of features that can be activated or removed using the MyAudi application.
