    Subaru Unveils Next-Generation 2025 Forester

Subaru had long been recognized as one of the more unconventional car manufacturers. Renowned for their proficient AWD technology and distinct flat-four engines, the Subaru of the past ventured beyond conventional norms with vehicles like the Brat, the WRX, and the Baja.

While they continue to offer the WRX, along with unique models like the Crosstrek, the mainstay of the brand has been its larger, CUVs such as the Forester.

    Subtle Enhancements

Thus, when unveiling the sixth-generation 2025 Forester, it was not surprising that Subaru chose a relatively conservative approach.

Essentially, the latest iteration isn’t markedly different from its predecessor. It’s built on a refined version of the existing platform with nearly the same dimensions.

However, there have been updates to the design, featuring a fresh appearance, improved aerodynamics, and a touch of inspiration from the WRX.

Internally, the Forester now sports the same expansive vertical display found in most other Subaru models, in addition to a comprehensive array of available safety technologies.

Among the improvements underneath are a chassis that Subaru claims is 10% stiffer than its predecessor and a steering mechanism borrowed from the aforementioned WRX.

    Increased Power, Desired

Regrettably, these enhancements do not extend to the engine. All 2025 Foresters will be propelled by the same 2.5L naturally aspirated boxer four-cylinder engine generating 180hp and 178 pound-feet of torque, paired exclusively with a CVT automatic transmission.

While many enthusiasts had hoped for the return of the Forester XT with the 2.4L turbo engine from the WRX and Outback, it appears this will not happen any time soon.

The Forester has been popular among weekend off-roaders and novice overlanders. Despite retaining its off-road capabilities, the deficiency in power and fuel efficiency compared to many competitors is hard to overlook.

For instance, when measuring up against a Toyota RAV4 that offers hybrid and PHEV variants, or a Ford Bronco Sport with its EcoBoost powertrain, the Subaru boxer engine falls notably short in power.

There is some optimism, as a more rugged next-generation Forester Wilderness is anticipated soon (possibly equipped with the turbo engine at last) and purportedly a hybrid model in development.
