The Next-Generation Lamborghini Surpasses 887 HP

Lamborghini is set to reveal a new supercar later this year to take the baton from the massively acclaimed Huracán, and CEO Stephan Winkelmann has assured that it will be endowed with upwards of 887 hp.

The affirmation from the automaker’s top executive came in the previous month through a Missive on social media, where he detailed that the horsepower would stem from a synergy of a twin-turbo V-8 and three electric propulsors.

The V-8 powerplant was also unveiled last month, being a freshly engineered 4.0-liter behemoth with a flat-plane crankshaft. Lamborghini has indicated this engine will escalate up to 10,000 rpm, providing a standalone output of 791 hp.

This points to Lamborghini’s forthcoming speed demon, rumored to be dubbed Temerario, poised to eclipse competitors such as the Ferrari 296 GTB and the McLaren Artura, which possess 818 hp and 690 hp, in sequence. Still, the Lamborghini might see an increased mass due to its larger powertrain and additional electric motors, as opposed to the competition’s smaller V-6 setups and lone electric motors. Spy shots indicating testing prototypes suggest a visual makeover that distances it from the prevailing Huracán design. Moreover, the aesthetic is anticipated to diverge significantly from Lamborghini’s Revuelto V-12 plug-in hybrid model, which also integrates a trio of electric motors, positioning two at the fore and one aft in harmony with the V-12.

The successor to the Huracán is expected to adopt Revuelto’s 8-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, and rumors suggest it might also employ a variant of Revuelto’s carbon-fiber monocoque construction.

Speculation hints at the automobile’s introduction occurring in August, coinciding with the 2024 Monterey Car Week. With plans to transform the Urus into a plug-in hybrid this year as well, Lamborghini will shortly brandish a fully electrified lineup. The carmaker is actively developing its inaugural electric model, preceded by last year’s Lanzador concept, and its arrival is projected for circa 2028.
