Volvo’s fresh electric midsize sports utility vehicle, the 2025 EX90, has commenced production at a factory located near Charleston, South Carolina, announced the car manufacturer on Wednesday.

The EX90 with three rows carries a starting price of $77,990, which encompasses a $1,295 fee for destination, and is anticipated to initiate deliveries in the United States during the latter part of the year.

Facing setbacks attributed to software issues, both the EX90 and its 2025 Polestar 3 counterpart were slightly delayed. The Volvo was initially slated to begin arriving in early 2024, with the Polestar planned for a late 2023 release.

The commencement of the Polestar 3’s production was in February at a manufacturing site in Chengdu, China, and is set to join the production lines of Volvo’s South Carolina facility this summer, aligning with the commencement of its U.S deliveries. The Polestar’s price tag starts at $74,800, destination fee included at $1,400, featuring a configuration with two rows of seats.

Built on an exclusive EV architecture, the EX90 standardly includes a 111-kwh battery pack and an all-wheel-drive system with dual motors. This setup produces a default 402 hp and escalates to 496 hp for the Performance version. While official EPA range estimations remain unpublished, Volvo estimates a potential of up to 300 miles. The vehicle supports DC expedited charging of up to 250 kw, capable of achieving a 10-80% charge in nearly 30 minutes, as stated by Volvo.

Marketed as Volvo’s leading model, the EX90 is fully equipped. Standard features encompass a panoramic glass roof, 20-inch rims, a digital display measuring 9.0 inches, an infotainment screen that is 14.5 inches big, along with an array of electronic aids for drivers powered by a lidar sensor and containing some autonomous driving capabilities. These technologies contribute to the EX90’s status as the most secure vehicle Volvo has produced to date, as declared by the automaker.

    As aified by the automaker.

The EX90 interior is designed with seven seats by default, although a configuration with six is optional. Volvo intends to present an upgraded Excellence variant in selective markets, which replaces the second and third rows with two individual seats each for an increased luxury experience.

Notwithstanding the release of the EX90, Volvo has decided to maintain sales of its petrol-driven XC90, which is also a midsize SUV equipped with a third row, for the foreseeable future.
